Accessorise to Mesmerise Blog Competition

When I found out about the competition, I cannot explain my excitement. Jewellery is one of my passions - and as an A Level Art student hoping to go into a fashion-related career, to be able to design an outfit with no price limit was really, really enjoyable.

The inspiration for this outfit began when I was searching for a gorgeous, statement piece of jewellery to base the outfit around. I wanted to be different - ranging outside of a flat, safe colour scheme and going for something bright and bold. So when I came across this phenomenal (and phenomenally expensive) Tom Binns 'neon gold' necklace I almost cried. I'm serious - I had to go and get a cup of green tea to calm myself down.

Tom Binns 'Neon Gold' Necklace, £1558.59 (*)

So my heart was firmly set on this as the statement piece of jewellery. I then built an outfit around it - a simple Dorothy Perkins dress (£32) in a jazzy, fluorescent green to compliment the necklace but with a simplistic, loose shape so as not to draw attention away from it. I then built my ideal outfit around it - a beautiful little Stella McCartney orange soft bra (£85), and some stunningly striking shoes - two-toned heels with bold colours to fit in with the overall scheme (*).

The clutch bag in this outfit is integral in tying the whole look together. It's bright pink - matching the shoes and picking up on the red in the beautiful necklace. I'm always one for a bag - I never show up anywhere without one and am slightly scared when people manage to fit everything they need in their pocket - how?! Givenchy do a really gorgeous range of clutches and this one I've been lusting over especially, but as a student I can't really afford to spend £295 on a clutch! (*) In my outfit I've also detailed what I would want in my bag - lipstick, the Naked blush palette (cries internally that it will never be mine, I am too poor!) and a beautiful neon watch - not only is it useful and integral to a well-supplied Mary-Poppins-esque-fully-equipped handbag, but it also fits in with the colour scheme. Of course also a little Opi nailpolish in 'Red my fortune cookie' (we'll excuse it for having a ridiculous name because it is just so lustworthy).

Finally, the extra jewellery. I wanted to build around my central piece - the necklace, by highlighting some of the more subtle colours within it. I'm a massive ring-girl - I'm currently wearing about 5, (mostly from an antique fair at which I absolutely binged on rings) and since this competition is all about the accessories I may have gone a little overboard on the bling. The big chunky Tony Burch red ring is my favourite - and whilst at £69 it's not cheap, it is a stunning piece to add to the outfit (*). I felt like the outfit was also crying out for some gold - so added some stacking rings (*) from an up-and-coming designer Alicia Marilyn, and a decadent cuff (*). Cuffs are tricky - I think sometimes they just look a bit like Buzz-Lightyear's arm-walkie-talkie cuff but I think that smaller cuffs like this one look really classy and are muted enough not to draw attention away from the rest of the outfit.

The final piece is a little silver ring (below). The competition is being organised by a company called 'Silver tree jewellery' and since they were running it, and I made this outfit for them, I wanted to add a little bit of them into the overall design. I really hope that this outfit fulfils the brief - I wanted to 'Accessorise to Mesmerise' by going bold, chunky and daring.

Hope you enjoy this post - sorry I haven't been on for a while - A Levels A Levels A Levels (cries). Another 2 months and they'll be finished! I love you love you love you if you read this. Have a lovely, lovely easter.

P.S. Bit of a disclaimer - I obviously have not been asked to promote any pieces in this outfit, and could not afford half of them! I'm sure, however, that you could re-create the outfit using far cheaper brands, which is something I might attempt, because I adore it. All my love. X

Smart Buy Glasses Wishlist

Okay, so I've seen some really gorgeous sunglasses through this wonderful giveaway and thought I might as well make a wishlist.

It's nearly summer, and I'm sure all of you are lusting over the sun every time it peeks through those storm clouds - I know I am! I'm actually not much of a summer person, (so it's a good job that I live in the UK I guess!) but I've always loved sunglasses because I wear glasses anyway. I always find it so hard to find the right pair, especially because I'm so blind without my normal glasses on that I can't see anything through most sunglasses! I've recently tried out contact lenses and I seriously recommend them when you don't want to spend out on prescription sunglasses, and wearing them under normal sunglasses.

And so, here's two of my favourites;

Celine more info - Celine CL 41755/S Audrey Polarized 807/3H Marc By Marc Jacobs more info - Marc By Marc Jacobs MMJ 155/S M9A/E5

The pair on the left (^) are by the brand Celine and they really caught my eye because of the lovely cat-eye look to them - with a slightly exaggerated point at the glasses' arm edge. I think they're a really flattering style and would look really gorgeous and classic on. The second pair (right) are by Marc Jacobs and I just adore them for the jaunty pattern. I would love to own these!

The Very Best of Pastel Bags

Pastel Bags

This season, especially in the chilly months, pastels are really trending - you can wrap up warm in a pale blue jacket, or whip on some pastel skinny jeans to complete any casual look. What interests me about this colour trend is how it applies to accessories, for example handbags, and how pastel handbags are in-season at the moment. Of course, one of the main reasons why satchels are trending is because of the business which became famous almost overnight - the Cambridge Satchel Company (website here ) which took a classic and played with the design. A pastel handbag is the ideal companion - not only are they really pleasing to look at, they're also really practical, as most are designed in a satchel format, so big enough to carry all of those extra make-up bits and any other things you keep in your handbag (I know mine is full of rubbish!). My favourite pastel handbags momentarily are these -

(from left to right)
Zatchels Handbag - £64 (they have a range of pastel colours, I would suggest having a look at the website www.welikefashion.com for more information)
Mint Green Handbag  - £30 ASOS
Cambridge Satchel Blue bag - (unpriced due to it being from a foreign website)
Pale Pink Bag - £180
Lacoste Bag - £120

Hope you've liked this post, I must say my favourite is the Zatchels bag! Lots of love

Mini Haul

I nipped into town today and picked up a few goodies with some spare cash I had, mainly treaty little things but also some make-up products which I've been wanting to trial, and some which I already love.

My first purchase was this foundation brush, by QVS -

I've been looking for a good foundation brush for so long, because I find it difficult to even out the foundation tone when I just apply it with my fingers. Most brushes have also been extortionately expensive due to the designer labels, and I've avoided buying own-brands, especially from Superdrug, because I've already tried some Boots and Superdrug own brand brushes, and they're not so great. This brush, (£4.99 from Superdrug), so far looks really great, although obviously I'll have to test it out. It has really fine, nylon bristles which will help the foundation go on smoothly, and I'm really looking forward to trying this product out.
I then waltzed into my tiny local Next to look around the clothing and accessories, and stumbled upon some of their perfumes. Next have recently introduced a whole line of perfumes labelled with a country, so they have Milan, London, New York and Paris. My favourite (although they were all gorgeous) was the Next Milan fragrance, and I've previously been tempted by the Next perfume line due to their cheap pricing and lovely packaging, but never indulged myself with one. This time, however, I couldn't resist - and at only £8 for 50ml it was an absolute bargain. The Milan perfume packaging looks like this -

(Excuse terrible lighting, the light I normally use to do product shoots has just broken).
(Stock Photo Above)
The product itself has this absolutely gorgeous scent - it describes itself as having notes of melon, green apple, magnolia, violet, sandalwood and amber, and it smells like my idea of heaven. I have yet to discover how long the scent lasts, but I sprayed it on my hand in the shop earlier, and about 3 hours later the scent is still there. The link for the product is here

Next, I went to Boots, and at the moment they have an offer of buy one get one half price over most of the make-up and nails. I bought a Rimmel Blush and a 17 Foundation from this deal, a Revlon lipstick and some Toni and Guy Sea Salt texturising spray.
My first item was the Rimmel Lasting Finish Mono Blush which looks like this -

Swatched (above), this blush is a creamy rosy colour (the light, again sorry, is terrible) which looks more like a foundation or concealer colour than a blush. I personally think that too much blush looks really horrible, and although it can contour the face nicely, I try and use just a little to highlight the cheeks. Therefore I really love this nudey colour, and it won't be too much for a simple everyday look. This was £3.99 (half-price due to the offer however) and the link is here. The shade is 020 Pink Rose. I have yet to discover whether the shade is nice on my skin tone, but it looks quite nice, so I look forward to trying it.

I also bought one of my personal favourite foundations through the offer - the 17 Sheer Moisture Foundation in Light -
This sheer foundation, for £4.99 offers, regrettably, not great coverage, but is one of my favourite foundations, purely because it's really moisturising and makes your skin feel ace. I use it as a substitute moisturiser in the mornings, obviously not before bed, and it does offer a little coverage as well as moisturising the skin. I would suggest, however, if you wanted to buy this product, using the tester in store, because I think it's really down to personal taste. I know some people don't like the kind of 'glowy' or 'shiny' look, but for me I think under my foundation this is a really great product - it makes my face feel great and is a really great base for a layer of foundation. I don't think I'd ever go out with just this on, but I love it nevertheless. This was the second one I've bought - the first has lasted me about a year, despite me using it all over my face every day, because you only need a little to cover and moisturise the whole face. Product link is here, and they have two shades, which are both quite light.

My penultimate product is this Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cappuccino (353), and the packaging looks like this -

The product itself is this colour -

(Again I am so sorry for the terrible lighting). This lipstick really surprised me because it was a kind of pinky, purpley, shiny shade when I first looked at it, something I don't really go for, because I hate lipsticks which are lighter than my quite olive-y skin tone. I swatched it anyway, and it came out as it suggested on the colour chart - a kind of pale pinky-orange, which is an absolutely gorgeous colour. I'm a massive fan of quite simple lipsticks, and I was actively searching for something which would have a natural look, but also be quite moisturising for my lips in this cold weather, because I always get chapped lips in winter. As for how long it lasts, I don't know yet, but I love the packaging and the colour, so I hope the product is as good as it looks. Link to the lipstick here, and the shade is Cappuccino, 353.

My final purchase was one of my all time favourite products - Toni and Guy's Sea Salt Texturising Spray. The product looks like this - (I bought the smaller version) -

I used to have really short, pixie hair, and I'm now growing it out and it's that really awkward mid-length where it's just long enough to tie into a pathetic little bun/ponytail or you just look silly with it down. I used this product religiously for about 2 or 3 years and then stopped with my pixie cut and switched to a Shockwaves Matt Clay (which I would strongly recommend for shorter cuts too). This gives your hair so much more body, and I used to use it on my hair when it was slightly longer than a pixie cut and make my hair slightly crazy, and then brush it through to give this really nice tousled look. It does just what it says on the bottle, and the smaller version is a little over £2 so it's really worth it. They also last a long time, as long as you don't spray it too liberally, and you just spray over wet hair and blow-dry your hair to create this amazing volumised look. Amazing product, and a must have hair essential. Product link for the larger bottle here. The smaller bottle is travel-sized and only costs about £2.19, but they don't have a website link, don't ask me why!

Haul finished! Hope you liked what I bought and I hope you'll go out and buy some lovely wintery bits for the upcoming cold weather, to cheer yourself up! Posts should be coming weekly from me, but I'm at college right now so it might be at the weekends or something.

Lots of love, hope you liked my haul!

Amy Antoinette Competition Entry

Hello! This is my entry for Amy Antoinette's Next Competition, hope you enjoy! Apologies for some of the pictures being fuzzy - photoshop wasn't working so I had to use Paint. I've also added in some hair and make-up suggestions in case anyone wants to re-create this look and is wondering about what make up to do, and how to style their hair to compliment the Next outfit.
Thankyou! xo

Scenario 1)

It's a chilly winter's day, and you've been asked out by some of your friends who are going to the cinema. You want to look casual, but also dress to impress, because you know someone you like is going. Below is my outfit choice.

Not only is this outfit quite cosy in winter months, you could keep adding layers to it to make it warmer (e.g. whip on a grey trenchcoat or add in a comfy, wooly scarf). It's also, whilst being quite casual, extremely on-trend, and the use of knee-high socks lengthens the look of the legs, despite you wearing flat shoes. Personally I would wear this outfit for any kind of casual event, so it's extremely fitting for a situation like this.

Colour Scheme -
Outfit Information -
http://www.next.co.uk/g485730s3#838044g48 jimmy choo scent (not next own brand but sold via the website so I though I would include it)

Make Up Choices
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
For this outfit you'd want a smoky-eyed look, to complete the whole grungey feel, but a more natural look on the rest of your face to really make your eyes pop. I would suggest these products -

Max Factor Eye Brightening Mascara - http://www.boots.com/en/Max-Factor-Eye-Brightening-Mascara-for-Brown-eyes_1265799/ (I have brown eyes so this is my shade, but they have variations for different eye colours
And a quite matte, nude lipstick or lip gloss, such as the collection 2000 cream puff lip cream - http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Cream-Puff-Lip-Cream_1222512/

Hair Choices -
I would suggest to have your hair up if you were going with this look, in a messy bun to tie in with that grungey look. If you had your hair down I would suggest giving it lots of texture with a volumising spray, curling parts of it to create that messy down look.

Scenario 2)

You've been asked to a winter wedding. The bride wants everyone to wear white, unconventionally, because it's going to be in a snowy setting, and the theme is 'Winter Wonderland'. You want to look good, but not take away too much from the bride herself. Below is my outfit choice.

Personally, I love this outfit for a winter occasion. Not only is it classy, it's also extremely sophisticated, and, most importantly, warm! I love the colour scheme of maroon and white, especially with the lacy look to the dress. Alternatively, you could wear a navy dress and those gorgeous black heels, it's your choice!

Colour Scheme -

Make Up Choices -
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
Personally, I would wear quite nude colours on the face generally, with nude tone eye shadows, perhaps with a lighter shade in the tear duct. I would pair this with a really bright lip colour to tie in with the maroon. Here are a few make-up products I would suggest;
A No7 primer to keep all that make up on - http://www.boots.com/en/17-Photo-Flawless-Primer_1155344/
Collection 2000 Blush - http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Blush_984138/ this is the most gorgeous blush if you haven't tried it yet, I thoroughly recommend trying it out.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick - http://www.boots.com/en/Rimmel-Lasting-Finish-Lip-Stick_1133045/ in Tantrum or Firecracker to finish the outfit

Hair Suggestion
I would suggest, again, hair up here, in a really neat bun or pony tail. This will complete the sophisticated and classy look, especially due to the fact that all of your hair is pulled off your face, giving focus on your bright lip colour.

Scenario 3)

You work in the fashion industry, and tomorrow is a big day - you have an interview with a higher power for a promotion, and you need to look fierce! Your current boss tips you that they're looking for someone who understands the current trends, and suggests that you wear something reflective of this. Below is my outfit choice.

I am absolutely in love with the over-sizing trend currently, and this classy, quite dulled down colour scheme is extremely sophisticated - perfect for an interview. It's also a warm outfit in these wintery months, which means you won't be too chilly on the way to work.

Colour Scheme -

Outfit Information -

Make Up Choices -
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
In this kind of situation, I would advise quite neutral and nudey make-up to tie in with the oatmeal colour scheme. I would suggest making blushes more gold than red, and having a pale pink or light nude lip colour, as well as quite simple eye makeup. Here are a few make-up products that I would suggest -

Bare Minerals Natural Lipcolour - http://www.feelunique.com/p/Bare-Escentuals-BareMinerals-Natural-Lip-Colour?q=mac in Pink Champagne

Hair Choices
Personally, I think either hair up or down would look good with this outfit. If you chose hair down, I would suggest sweeping it behind the outfit (if long enough), making it look sleek and professional. If up, do a neat bun or ponytail, and hairspray heavily to avoid any flyaway ends.

Thankyou for reading my post, I hope you've enjoyed it! I have taken about 2 days straight to do this, so I hope you like it, and I'm a new blog, so this was a really lovely thing for me to do, and I've loved seeing how other people have styled the stock. :-)
